Known as the Paragliding capital of India, the towns of Bir and Billing in Kangra district are extremely popular places for adventure sport. The area is noted as a site for paraglider pilots, both Indians and visitors from all over the world. The village continues to host periodic international competitions and events. The paragliding launch site is in the meadow at Billing (14 km north of Bir), at an elevation of approximately 2540 metres), while the landing site and most tourist accommodations are in the village of Chowgan, on the southern edge of Bir.
Arrive at Bir Campsite: Arrival at Bir and transfer to Hotel. After lunch we drive around to see the local sights. Bir is famous for its Tibetan colony and various Buddhist monasteries and Stupas which are worth visiting. The old Lord Shiva Temple, Baijnath, Sherabling Monastery, Ilu road and Deer Park are other places to visit. Night stay at Bir hotel.
Trek from Bir Campsite to Billing Valley: Bir and Billing have another claim to fame. It has one of the most beautiful jeep-able routes in Kangra valley. This is actually a road hew out of the rock face in 1962 and the distance can only be covered either by foot or a jeep. After breakfast we drive to the take-off point in Billing and trek the scenic route to Hanumangarh (3500m). Night stay in Rajgundha Camp with dinner and bonfire.
Tandem ride from Billing to Bir: In the morning enjoy breakfast and get ready to fly like a bird! Tandem ride from Billing to Bir takes approximately 20 to 30 Minutes before landing at Chougan, Bir. Once the adrenalin rush subsides, we have lunch at Bir in the bustling Tibetan market which marks the end of the trip.
